Vilniaus Apskritis Travel Forum

I am travelling through Lithuania stopping at various towns of my ancestors, the last one being Vilnius. From there I want to travel to Poland but the trains are soooooo slow. I don't think I can hire a car in Lithuania and deposit it in Poland, so what method of transport that is quick would you recommend. I am semi-retired so I am not on a budget! Any help would be very welcome.

There are reasonably fast and inexpensive busses to Warszawa, we discussed that topic a few months ago.

Train or Bus is slow. Roughly 10 hours from Vilnius to Warsaw. But there is flights on a few airlines that go to Warsaw. (LOT and SAS) I am not sure if your destination is close to Warsaw, but if not, you might have to resort to the bus.

thanks for that info. I will research air flights. Otherwise I might just take a taxi. Any idea how much vilnius to bialystock would cost.

You don't say when you will travel. It is possible there may not be many flights until later in the spring season. I looked at March and on the 18/03 I see a LOT flight for about 75 Euro. Since I don't know when, you will have to look it up yourself with your known date. You can try SAS also, but they would probably be more expensive.

I have checked the www.europcar.lt, there is possibility to rent a car from Vilnius to Warshaw, for example... Please, contact them. Then you have independency and travel when you want. Navigation system should be usefull for your trip. Please, ask if they rent also Garmin navigators. The satelite map of Lithuania and Poland is really well done, not many mistakes, so it is helping for relaxed traveling.
