It looks like the best way to get around the Lofoten islands is by car. Where is the best place to get a rental car at a reasonable price?

It depends where you will be starting your trip(?). If you rent a car, let's say, in Bødo, then you need to consider the price you will pay for the ferry.

We are looking at flying into Lecknes and hoping to hire a car from there. If it is not possible then we will look at renting from Bodo.

Google tells me that there are at least two car rental companies with offices at Leknes airport - Avis and Europcar.

You can get a car on every airport, but on the smaller like Leknes the car will be stationed in Leknes viilage, so book in advance. website www.wideroe.no has info both on Leknes (airline Wideroe flies there) an possibiities for car booking
