| Sydney | Renting Camping Supplies Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 04:03 PM UTC
I will be Sydney in March/April and wanted to know if there was any place where I could rent camping supplies. Looking to rent tents, stoves, sleeping bags, etc.
Also, if you have any suggestions on good places to camp in NSW or QL, let me know Thanks Mike |

Not sure of camping rentals.
How's you're mode of travel? My fave places to camp in NSW would be: Upper Colo River camping ground (30min north of windsor) Treachery Camping Ground, Seal Rocks (3-4hrs north of Sydney) Enjoy, and watch out for the drop bears. Pete

This one link I found when I googles for renting camping gear. There could be more. If you only need the basic gear, you can pick up some cheap stuff at disposal stores, and outdoor camping stores. Also you could find some cheap stuff at one of the many secondhand shops that are scattered around Sydney.Shops like KMart etc have cheap plastic plates and cups, knives/forks, ground mats, little gas stoves( no need for gas bottle, these have little disposable cans to use in them) etc. You also may find some stuff being sold at backpacker places. They have notice boards with things wanted to be sold. You will need a good sleeping bag, nothing worse than being cold. You might just have to buy one of these new. Also remember your tent should be a pretty good one, again these aren't really expensive.Make sure the tent can stand a bit of rain and wind:) You don't say where you are from. It could be cheaper to just buy or bring bits and pieces from home.

fyi, those little camping stoves are between $15-25 (with gas), and seem awesome.

I have camped in many places in NSW and VIC. Never camped in QLD
The best place I ever camped at was on the Quart Pot Flat by Wombat Creek between Mitta Mitta and Omeo in Vic. It used to be a gold mining area so had ruins to explore plus caves to go pot holing and good trout fishing (before the drought anyway). Here is a picture of a hut we rebuilt that was originally built in the 1800's: http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/images http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/images For all I know it is burnt down now but if not, it was a pleasant place to stay. I can remember being happy in Kangaroo Valley near Nowra. I once did an overnight kayak trip from Kangaroo valley down the Shoalhaven river to Nowra. Otherwise, I think you should be happy by any stretch of river, anywhere you can find a place to camp. Regards: Jim
