Ohio Marriage in Cleveland and in Tucson 3 weeks later.
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 01:19 PM UTC
Dear reader, I'm writing you as you have been on VT's network not too long ago.
I'm looking for possibilities; here is why: This year in September 2 daughters of old friends of ours, (used to live in Holland) will get married; the first marriage is in Cleveland Ohio and the secand one will marry in Tucson Arizona three weeks later. My idea is to fly from Holland to Cleveland, rent (or buy) a camper (RV) and drive to Tucson. I would leave (or sell) the RV there and fly from Phoenix back to Holland.
My question: do you know of the availability of companies (or persons) wanting
to rent or sell a camper to me. If I look at the internet, Chicago is the
nearest place where I can rent an RV and leave it in Phoenix.
Hopefully I can have an early response from you. All the best, enjoy life!. Jan

If Chicago is the nearest place to rent, it's not a problem as there's an easy and fairly cheap train service between the two cities.
Sounds like a fun trip though.

Ohio Three week trip between Cleveland and Tuscon

The time, trouble, and expense needed to accomplish either a purchase (and then sale) or rental of an RV to go between these two places over a three week period will be quite great. RV's are NOT cheap to rent (or buy) or easy to sell; doing it on a one way rental basis will raise the price quite a bit. I can't imagine it wouldn't be far easier and less expensive to just take a plane (or train or maybe even a bus) between various sites.

Just for "grins and giggles," I use Kayak.Com to check for the prices on a flight between Cleveland and Tucson in mid-September (flexible dates and airports). Frontier Airlines will do this one-way flight in September for $166 -- which won't even cover your gasoline in an RV.

If you want to see stuff along the way, Amtrak will do the trip for $169, allowing you to see places like Chicago and San Antonio.

If you want to drive around Arizona for a couple weeks before the second wedding (not a bad idea), go between Cleveland and Arizona and then rent a car once you're there. The cost for a car, returned to the same spot, will be FAR less than a one-way rental for an RV; and will be a LOT easier to handle as well.

Would anyone be interested in the purchase of an RV (Camper) in Tucson or Phoenix? In that case I would consider buying the RV in Cleveland (or area). Jan (from Holland)

Hi there:

I once moved from Cleveland to Phoenix and now I am back again in Cleveland. I think renting is the best option - van or car in fact if you are going to drive. On priceline.com you may be able to bid and get a car for $20/day - there are many cheap places to stay along the way and then you can leave the car and not worry about selling.
