Hi

got a question concerning the still missing piece in my routing through china. would like to get from urumqi to Golmud, and wondering if there are busses running or trains even,even a flight would be fine. problem is that in my China travel guide it doesnt really come up with any fancy connection.
If anyone knows any alternative way to get there, like hitchhiking on a truck, and knows roughly how long thats gonna take, iŽd be fine with that as well.

There're no direct trains for this route. I'm not sure if there're direct buses, but I doubt so.
2 options for you to consider:
a) Urumqi -- train -- Lanzhou -- train -- Golmud
b) Urumqi -- train -- Dunhuang -- bus -- Golmud
I probably prefer the 1st one although it's a bit longer. Trains are much more comfortable and cheaper than buses.

hi...thanks for your answer... do you know how it is with flights ? any flights from Urumqui to Golmud ?

and another question.. do i still need a permit to enter Tibet by train from Golumd, if yes, can i get it in Golmud when i buy the train ticket, and how long does it take to get that permit ?

AFAIK, no direct flights for Urumqi -- Golmud.
No comments on the permit situation because I don't know.

There is daily flight from Urumqi to Dunhuang, then you can take a bus to Gulmud.
