Cebu Island Is it worth it?
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 03:57 AM UTC
We will be in Boracay in October for 2 weeks and thought about flying into Cebu for a few days. I saw that Cebu Pacific can get us there for really cheap. We would go on a Monday and come back on a Wednesday ( or something like that). Is it worth it? We thought it would be nice to fly to another island since we are coming from so far away. I looked at Cebu becuase it is the only flight that goes out of Boracay...what do you think? Go or stay put in Boracay?

If you're up for adventure, I'd suggest that it may be a nice idea for you to see Cebu. I'm not only saying it because I'm Cebuana, and therefore biased in my opinion that way, but Cebu really has a lot to offer. The sugary white sand beaches in the South are well-worth seeing. There are many historical points of interest, you can do a day tour to see the Kawasan falls, go scuba diving or jetskiing, visit the nearby islands, go shopping, taste the delicious treats--the famous Cebu lechon, barbeque, pastries, etc. The list goes on and on. Do enjoy your trip!

2 weeks in boracay would be boring..a side trip to cebu would do you great! get a taste of the culture and the country in another part of the Philippines... we are not just all beach and sand! And Cebu is a great place to start!

Two weeks on Boracay would be way more than enough for me too! In fact I would bypass Boracay completely and just start a two week vacation in Cebu City. The only reason I feel the need to go back to Boracay is to film it. Otherwise, I have discovered many more much more interesting places to visit.

Just to clarify
- No commercial flights fly from Boracay. You have to travel by pump boat to Caticlan for the airport.
- Flights from Caticlan also go to Manila and Clark.
- Also, Cebu Pacific GO fares (the first fare you see) do not include the taxes. Did you check a price that included taxes by clicking the next button?

You will have to be out of bed by 5am at the latest to make the Cebu Pacific flight. You can decide if that is worth it! A more civilised flight time can be had with

I lived in Cebu for a couple of years and have otherwise been visiting off and on since 1994. I am happy there so am biased too about saying it is worth it.

Cebu City is the site of original spanish occupation in the Philippines. So there are plenty of historical sites to see. Plus from Cebu City, you can easily travel to other tourist islands such as Bohol, Camiguin, Malapascua and Bantayan. On the island of Cebu itself is the not to be missed Kawisan Falls. It is about 2 hours by car from Cebu City.

I say cut the Boracay time in half, then yes go to Cebu but immediately board a ferry to Bohol Island, and spend the other half of your time there.
Cebu is becoming more and more like Manila. Since you've chosen Boracay as your vacation(?) spot, I assume you want to have a more relaxing time. No offence to Cebuanos and Cebuanas.

Boracay has to be the most over-rated vacation destination in southeast Asia. It's over-crowded with locals and there is not alot to do. Also note its a tiny tiny island. You can walk the entire beach front area in an hour. I think you will start getting bored after 4 days. Its also terribly overpriced. I have been all over the Philippines and would recommend places like Cebu, Palawan, and even Bohol. However, if you are looking for all-night parties Boracay might be suited for that. Otherwise, try Cebu. When it comes to 5-star resorts Cebu is the only place in the Philippines that offer these kinds of resorts. Boracay has no 5-star resorts although they are in the midst of building one. The best they off are very nice 3-star hotels at 5-star prices.

I guess I forgot to mention that this will be our honeymoon. So, we decided Boracay to relax a little and not be too crazy. Don't get me wrong we still want to do stuff, but we don't want to feel bad if we just sit on the beach. We are going during the low season (start of October. I think that we will go to Cebu Island thanks for the tips!!! You guys are the best.
