Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Moscow Are tourist sites open during Moscow's publi holidays?
Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 01:36 PM UTC
Hi,

I am planning to travel to Moscow during the first week or so of May. However, I noticed that 1st May and 9th May are both public holidays, Labour day and Victory day respectively.

Are tourist sites in general open during public holidays? Seems that Red Square will be holding parades during these 2 days, is it still possible to visit the Armoury and Kremlin?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sure, these days the Red Square will be partially closed, but as to Kremlin museums - they have the separate gates, and there is no any information about these special dates, but you can answer them through the official site of Kremlin complex (in English) http://www.kreml.ru/main_en.asp

As soon as May 01 is Thursday - the Kremlin will be closed for tourists (usual day off). On May 09 there can be restrictions not only about Red square - but Alexander garden with the Tomb of the Unknown soldier as well. Red square may be closed before and after parade of May 09 - which is a usual procedure.
