Hello travelers,

We have already the Inca Trail Permits for June and would like to hear your packing advices as well about good places to buy Perunian itens - warm clothes (and others) for the treck are available? Where? For what price?
Did you used your sticks for the hike or rent special ones there?

Thanks,
Alexandra

Lots of places selling stuff in Cuzco but just a warm jumper and water/wind proof coat is enough. Sticks no use on the climb down in places as there are steps. We didn't use or need sticks (didn't see for rent)or porters as they are available. We overtook porters who were probably waiting for their clients to catch up. If you're fit enough it's 2 days.

Sticks with metal points aren't allowed. No need for them anyway.

There are many warm clothing for sale in Lima or Cusco, should you decide to buy it in Peru rather than in your country of origin. I suggest you dress in layers because sometimes it gets cold (especially as you go higher up in altitude and at nights) and it gets warm (during the day as you hike up). You can bring your own walking stick, buy it there, or the easiest way is to rent it at your trekking agency. Pack lightly and if you need some help, you can always hire the service of a porter to carry some of your load (there is a maximum weight requirement for that though). Goodluck on the trek. You will LOVE it!!!

Walking poles can help on the steep uphills, but you must have rubber tips or they are not allowed as steel tips damage the trail. Layers are definitely the way to go - I went in June 05, and did the trail as a run in one day - we started very early 4.30am and it was really cold, but by mid-morning, it was really hot. If you prefer more technical hiking clothing, buy it before you go as I don't recall seeing anywhere selling it in Cusco, but you will end up buying 'baby alpaca' jumpers in Cusco simply because they are so cheap and everyone is wearing them!
