| Manila | NAIA Airport Posted: Sun February 24, 2008 12:34 AM UTC
I plan to go backpacking, but the problem is I don't know if my things in my backpack will get lost when I arrive at NAIA Airport. I am from Manila myself but I don't even know if it's safe. Before, we usually use luggage, at least it's easier to have them locked. But I'm on a budget trip and carrying a big backpack is much conveninent. The only things that will be in my backpack on my way back to MAnila is my dirty laundry and used toiletries.
Think they will get lost on the airport? (Because I think the only place that I can use the padlock is the lower part of the backpack) |

Hi Guo! Luggage dimensions/weight are more strictly reinforced in international travel... better comply :-)
for your pack's security, you may want to get one of those pliable cables to connect each zip line to connect and lock them up. Of course, it's not fool-proof but can still discourage potential theft. Don't forget to put on a bag tag. Enjoy your trips and welcome to VT!

pay to get your backpack wrapped in plastic; nobody will open it then.

how do i get my backpack wrapped in plastic? I'll be coming from Incheon Airport. Or maybe I can just wrap it on my own with plastic tape.

Hi i also use backpack when travelling domestic and so far i have not encounter any bad experience. Just make sure you don't put any valuables inside. Put something like a name tag in your backpack so you could easily locate it in the baggage carousel.

Very well said, so I guess, there's no really serious deal in worrying too much. Locked or not if people will get interested in a random luggage snatching at airport cargoes, there are several ways to do it than just opening someone else's unsecured luggage. i.e. take the whole package or if the luggage is locked...gillette had several types of anything sharp. What are the chances that cargo staff would get interested in dirty laundry and used toiletries? ;) Happy trip!

Have faith and pray :) Seriously, I can't vouch for how honest NAIA's baggage handlers are, but I've never had any bad experience at NAIA even with unlocked bags.

I too will offer a testimonial. My sister and I just flew into and out of NAIA a few weeks ago. Due to some flight scheduling issues, both of us were separated from our luggage for over 10 hours. If anything were to happen, that would have been the opportune time... but both our bags were untouched.
The taxi drivers will try to take you money, but nobody at the airport will try to take your belongings...
