Manaus Manaus to Caracas OR Caracas to Manaus
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 06:05 PM UTC
Looking for someone that has done the journey between Caracas and Manaus by bus. We prefer going by bus that plane as to see places on the way.

If you have done this journey could you please give me advice on bus lines you took, or places you stopped on the way to break up the journey. Trying to avoid 23 hours straight on the bus and it would be nice to stop in the Gran Sabana or Ciudad Bolivar or Delta Orinoco on the way.

Thanks

Some advertisements stand in need before this crazy trip:
* Yellow fever vaccine must be OK
* Passport must be OK
* The road near national indian territory come to pass closed at night in
Brazil
* Better you choose some tourism company. It'll be the car owner and it
will provide the driver. You just cast a look on the car mechanical condi-
tions.
- So, I am attaching some links to go to Isla Marguerita/Venez. by Manaus:

http://www.mre.gov.br/cdbrasil/itamaraty/web/ingles/divpol/norte/rr/boavista/index.htm
http://www.nomad.com.br/destinos/viagem.asp?pag=0&id_hist=872&id=515
http://www.boavista.rr.gov.br/conheca.php
- You will travel by BR-174 high-way till the border.

This "crazy trip" ... well, I wouldn't call it crazy. I did it last year and it was awesome!!

You can do it straight by bus or you can break it down as many times as you want depending on how much time you have. I didn't stop by the Orinoco River or at Ciudad Bolivar. I took an overnight bus to the Gran Sabana and got off at one of the first "saltos". After that I kept on hitch-hiking stopping at all the falls near the highway. Beautiful!!

The falls I liked the best is Salto Kawi, where you can spend the night. There are cabanas pretty close to the water (around 20,000 bolivares the night).

You can also spend a night at Santa Elena, before you get to Brazil. If you really have time, you can visit Quebrada Pacheco (quite close to town) or you can go climb the Mount Roraima (that'd take you like four days).

Once in Brazil, you can stop at Boa Vista. There are not that many things there, but the river beaches are cool. Be careful ... if you go in the rainy season, you won't want to swim (there are piranhas or anacondas in the flooded area).

Even before you get to Manaus, there's a nice town called Presidente 'something' ... it's worth to visit.

Where are you gonna go after Manaus? Back to Caracas?

It would take you (if you go straight) some 35 or 40 hours ... I believe it's around 24 from Caracas to the border, then it's like 3 or 4 to Boa Vista and 12 more till Manaus.

I can't remember how much I paid... I guess it was like 35,000 bolivares (1 USD = 2,150 bol, the official exchange rate by that time); and then I know it was like 80 reais (around 40 US dollars) from Boa Vista to Manaus.
