| Pattaya | Hotel upon arrival Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 03:03 PM UTC
I am not sure if I will include Pattaya in my visit to Thailand. But in case I do go there in March, is it hard to find Cheap (about $30-$40) hotel upon arrival? I am not picky, but prefer to see what I am staying before making committment. Is March a bust season?

March is still high season, for 30-40 USd I think you can get quite decent room at Jomtien area, but is far from the center. In the Pattay center there are few option, but , keep your word, you're not picky, as standards can be of not really accpetable level!

You won't have much of a problem. Pattaya has cheaper hotels than Bangkok. A price of $40 buys something pretty good! I was last in Pattaya in January and I got a place on a walk in real easy. There were others I passed up.
You can book a night or two if you want but do take the time to check out some some other hotels and you may be able to save some money. Usually the expensive hotels try to keep the "high season" prices in effect but in March cheaper hotels are not that greedy. If you want a hotel just to relax at and you have no interest in the livelier parts of Pattaya where most of the bars and malls are at then find a place in Jomtien. In Jomtien you can swim at the beaches and it's pretty nice but some places are sort of remote and you would need to spend some money on taxi trucks to see anything else. My preference is a hotel close to Pattaya 2nd Road or a not too far from it, between North Pattaya Road on down to Walking Street gives you a lot of choices. If you have a hotel near Pattaya 2nd Road you can use the cheap 10 baht baht buses to travel around. Beach Road parallels Pattaya 2nd Road and only goes South. Lots of restaurants, bars, hotels, malls, street vendors, shops, etc. in this area! Map of Pattaya and Jomtien. http://www.guidetothailand.com/pattaya-thailand/ma http://www.guidetothailand.com/pattaya-thailand/ma http://www.guidetothailand.com/pattaya-thailand/ma A hotel in the 400 baht range will most likely have air, hot water, private toilet and shower and maid service. A place that is around 800 - 900 baht may even have a pool. Here is a link to one hotel you can check out. They will probably give you a break on the price if you stay longer if you want. This place was recently remodeled and is not too expensive when you walk in. Other hotels on this same soi are the Bay Breeze and the Intown Holiday Hotel which are not too bad. Honey Inn, on Soi Honey Inn. Link: http://www.hotelthailand.com/pattaya/honeyinn/inde There are lots of hotel, this is just the area I like. Other travelers like other parts of Pattaya. Up to you! Good luck.

Pattaya has an overload of hotels...and they all have to compete for your custom so they tend to offer good VFM.
I would suggest that whilst booking in advance is certainly not a necessity, if you do this for your first night r two you can then shop around at leisure and find something to your taste. From 800 to 1300 baht you should get air, TV, hot water, pool etc. If you HAVE booked a room it is easier to get a taxi from the airport and you will be transported door to oor.

Yes, I agree. Book a hotel online ahead of time if possible and change to one you like the next day. That said, I almost never book ahead. I have some hotels in mind after looking at the internet and I choose one to head for. That way you give the taxi some definite directions. It is difficult to be stuck with a ton of baggage, an impatient taxi driver and no idea where you want to go. You may want to book a more upscale hotel for the first night and lower your standards when you get a chance to look around.
Many of the cheaper hotels do not go through travel agents, you have to find them online. The one I like is the Eastiny hotels (now 5 in the chain. http://www.eastinypattaya.com/ They are cheap, <1000Bt and good. The one on soi 8 can be a bit loud with all of the bars surrounding it, but if you join the action, you won't mind.
