| Honolulu | Inexpensive Parking In/Near Waikiki? Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 07:52 AM UTC
I've been blissfully car-free in Waikiki but am going to rent a car for a few days. If I park the rental car where I'm staying, it'll cost $18 per day.
I got to thinking that there must be a place to park the car for less. We're staying pretty close to the Ala Wai Canal and the Zoo. I'm hoping that someone knows of some lots and/or parking spaces where we could parking it on the cheap or maybe even for free! Any ideas? Robert |

Robert,
There is a parking lot makai of Kalakaua along Kalia Road just ewa of Saratoga Road in the Fort DeRussy area. I can't recall the exact daily parking rate but I believe it is affordable. However I think you can only get a 3- or 5-day pass so if you park there for longer you have to get a new pass. The office is in a parking structure across Kalia Road from the Hale Koa Hotel. This may not be totally convenient for the obvious reasons and the fact that it isn't exactly close to where you're staying, but not too far either. Hey, there's always the chance you could find street parking! Check this out: http://www.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2005/08 Also supposedly there is $7 overnight parking at the Waikiki Banyan which is closer to where you are staying. See this thread for the info: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60982-i38-k9 Here's a link to the location: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=201+Ohua+Avenue,+968 Aloha!

Interesting links, Andy. Thank you! You know, when I was in Miami last year I found one block of entirely free parking and added a tip about it. I may do the same here in Waikiki!

I noticed today on the Eastern side of Kapiolani Park, along Paki Avenue, that were were a series of parking lots with no particular parking restrictions about leaving a car there overnight.
Might anyone know if there are any hidden restrictions about doing so? Robert

For the 4 days I had the vehicle, I opted to just try my luck along the Ala Wai Canal. And I got lucky EVERY single day!!!

I was there May 11 thru the 17th. My hotele was 18 dollars a night. The Waikiki Banyan was 3 short blocks away. I got parking there for Sunday thru Sat. for 50 dollars cash. 60 if by credit card. At the Banyan you also get to go in and out anytime you wish.
