Ankara Tripping to Cappadocia from Ankara
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 03:48 AM UTC
Hi there,

We are wanting to see the main sights of Cappadocia from Ankara if possible. We were wondering what is the best and cheapest way to do this in 2 days?

Does anyone know of any backpacker type tours that do this?

Thanks so much,

Michelle and Anne

Catch an overnight bus to Goreme and then get on a tour early next day, plenty of them. Do that for 2 days and late bus back to Ankara.

2 days is very little to see cappadocia.
as previously mentioned an overnight bus is probaply the best solution.

you don't really have backpacker style tours out of ankara as it's a place with very few backpackers.
most backpacker tours are out of istanbul, but cappadocia also has some good tours.

right next to the bus station in goreme there is a place that rents out bicycles, motorbikes and quadbikes.
they do quadbike tours every afternoon where you get to visit most of the valleys in the region.

The best way is to have a guided tour from Ankara to Cappadocia (Kapadokya). I took once and satisfied a lot. The region is quite big (open air museum, underground city, valley, winehouses, etc) so better to let them professionals take you there in an organized manner. Tempo tour is quite good and you can find details at their web site: http://www.tempotour.com.tr/haftasonu/kapadokya.htm.

There is no train to Nevsehir the capital of the Region called Cappadocia but bus.
There is every 2 hours bus from Ankara to Nevsehir. 09:00, 11.00, 13.00, 15:00, 18:30.
The bus company is Nevtur or Nevsehirliler. Tel. number: 0212-4445050
It takes 5 hours. The other touristic towns around Nevsehir are, Urgup, Goreme, Uc Hisar, Avanos.
Avanos is a little faraway. It takes half our from nevsehir to Urgup and goreme.

If you need a tourist guide from Ankara who knows Cappa very well I recommend you my friend Mr. Kansav Arslan and his company.
kansav@kansav.com
is the e-mail adress of him. Please tell him that you received his adress from "Tosun Saral" alias Sir Vctor. He is a friend of mine. He will say all about Cappa. He is very reliable and distinquished person.

I would suggest getting the tour in Goreme itself. There are a couple of agencies across the otogar (bus terminal)and I think you can book the tour on arrival - just keep in mind that tours start at around 9 am. That way you can compare prices and packages.

I am going to have to dissagree with the previous post. The most practical and cheap way.......would actually just to take a public bus to Goreme, find your own hotel........which is super easy, and cheap. I stayed in a cave room and paid 5L a night.......but expect to pay around 10L. Goreme is the most central location......and the whole city is filled with people begging you to take their tours.........most hostels and hotels will set you up with day tours with ease.

-But of course doing it yourself with public transport is more economical.....and in my opinion more rewarding. You can go at your own pace, and you know your not getting poked with over the top prices.

The two best underground cities are within 30min of Goreme........But like one person mentioned already. 2 days in Cappodocia region is not nearly enough. 5 days would be adequate in order to have time to independantly hike through some of the nearby canyons and explore some caves.

hey there ,

cheapest way is to take bus which is available every hour from bus station in ankara.it only takes 4 hours.there are 3 main towns in cappadocia; goreme, uchisar and urgup .goreme is backpapers heaven ; try pradise hotel , kelebek pension or goreme house or if your looking for cheaper accomodation shoe string pension they all must have web sites.you will easily find travel agencies in Goreme bus station that organize daily tours.do not expect sth professional they are rather cheap and seem to be the only way explore capp. within 2 days. enjoy ur trip :)
