| Yangon Division | Living and Working in Yangon Posted: Fri February 22, 2008 04:01 PM UTC
Has anyone recently lived and worked in Yangon and can tell me about their experience? What kind of jobs are available? How to rent accommodation? What kind of visa is required?
Thanx |

There are very few jobs (and very few expats) in Burma. Basically, the few jobs available are either working for an embassy or as a teacher of english at one of the (few) international schools. if you want to know more, ask.

There isn't even any information on here on working/residential visas, so you would have to contact the nearest Embassy: http://www.myanmarembassy.com/english/visa.htm
In most countries you have to have a job before you can get a visa to enter the country for work purposes (in many cases, your visa application has to be supported by a work permit obtained by your future employer). But in any case, your question goes beyond the sort of information required by travellers and you would do better looking on expats' sites rather than VT, e.g. p://www.alloexpat.com/myanmar_expat_forum/

Most (though not all) work visas for Burma are for 2,5 months and you'll have to fly back to Bangkok to renew it. It does depend on the company since it is possible to have a visa for longer (usually embassy staff and so on).
Why do you want to work in Yangon if you don't mind me asking?

What is your professional ? Rent a accommodation is easy but most of the accommodation need up front payment by at least 6 months or a year rental except international hotels where they ask for 3 months deposit and monthly payment.

At the small guesthouses you can arrange a monthly rate (even for 1 month).
