Grand Canyon Bus tour from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon
Posted: Fri February 22, 2008 01:18 PM UTC
Is the tour worth it? How much will it cost? Any suggested tour operator?

Will there be enough time to take pictures if we join the bus tour?

Depends on which tour and what you consider "worth it."

> How much will it cost?
Different tour operators charge different amounts for different tours.

You will have plenty of time to take photos of the place you go to on your bus tour. Whether you'll have enough time to actually experience The Canyon in the way and place it is best experienced is another matter.

Now I'll give specific advice on tours of "the Grand Canyon." There are two places tours go to: the area owned by the Hualapai, generally known as the "West Rim," and the area administered by the National Park Service, generally knows as the "South Rim." The former is a pretty amazing place, but pales in comparision to the South Rim. If you buy a tour that claims to take you "the Grand Canyon," be 100% certain you're going to the latter. If the tour mentions a helicopter ride or a boat ride or a jeep ride down to the Colorado River, you know you're going to the West Rim.

If you ride a bus from Vegas to the Canyon's South Rim, and then return to Vegas the same day, with a total of about three hours actually seeing the Canyon (and not a gift shop or an IMAX{R} film), then you're not experiencing the Canyon in the best possible way. And if there's two or more of you who can drive, you're almost certainly paying more than you would by just renting a car and driving there.

I once took a scenic flight to the Grand Canyon, and there the trip continued by bus, and we visited a lot of scenic spots. It was quite nice for a first Grand Canyon visit but paled compared to the other trips I made later on my own. I would defintely rent a car and stay for the night, so you would have time to really soak in the scenery.

However, if you want to go with the bus tour:

The first two trips look quite interesting.

Thanks for your replies. How i wish we could stay longer, but one day is all we've got, thus a day tour. The tour will cost about $82 each. Here's the tour operator's site: http://www.alllasvegastours.com/Body.asp?tour=LAS-B0001&page=TourDetails

Is this tour ok?

I think you will be happy with this tour, as obviously it will cover all major sightseeing spots. I also found the IMAX theatre great which is optional on your trip. Enjoy and have fun!
