LOACAL SIGHTS
The Kasbah - Built on top of a hill and visible from the surrounding area. Spectacular panoramic views.
The Port - Best seen as part of the city tour. If you go on your own, go in the morning so you can see the boats come in with their catch and go into the fish market. Also see boat building in progress. You can also have fishy lunch here but best go only to Layounne and do not hire a guide, he will take you to a restaurant of his choice and charge a vast amount for the food and then also charge for the tour of the port.
Have ice cream from Ice Legend and see the sunset on the beach in the evening.
Get on the Petit Train for a tour around Agadirs tourist area.
Valee de Oiseaux - an animal sanctuary/zoo, 5Dh get in (and out!).
Souk al Had - largest in N Africa at 4 sq Km, a must see. Closed Monday.
Taxi's are cheap but only use the orange ones where the fare should not be more than about 10Dh to any part of the tourist sector. Make sure the meter is on.
TRIPS OUTSIDE OF AGADIR
Tafraout and Tiznit - full day, great views from up in the Atlas Mountains in Kerdous but Tiznit, the former silver capital, is rather run down.
Marrakech 2 days or 1 day - You must do a day in Marrakech. Start at 6:30am and back in Agadir for midnight. You get a tour of the place with stops at landmarks and free time to wander. 2 days involves staying at hotel overnight and maybe a stop at Essaouira on the 2nd day.
Massa by Landrover - visit to South Agadir but not quite in the Sahara.
Immouzzer - half day drive along the coast, banana plantations, palm groves & gorges.
Berber evening
Essaouirra (aka Mogador) - full day. Old Roman/Portuguese sea port, picturesque, with souk.
Taroudant - half day tour of mini-Marrakech relaxing but a bit dull. Stop for a snack/drink nearby.
Boat Trip - Learn to catch fish, moor off the coast for lunch then more of same.
Horse Riding or Camel Riding - Trek along the Souss River, suitable for beginners. Mint tea and patries included on Camel Riding. You can also do these on Agadir beach but this is by private arrangement and you will have to agree a price beforehand.
La Medina d'Agadir - A handicraft and cultural village currently closed due to tax issues.
Best trip organiser I have found is Four Seasons Travel (FST), 2nd floor, Immeuble 4, Galerie Al Inbiatt, Avenue Hassan II, next to La Fontaine, just round the corner of Passage Ait Souss, turn right. They have a rep Laila who visits some of the hotels in Agadir although First Choice can offer similar and both offer 50% reduction for children aged 2 - 12.
Hiring a car can be a dangerous experience if you have never driven here. Taxis can take you to places like Tiznit but you have to agree a price on the fare.
