We are planning to stay in Pompei for 4 days. Is there anything interesting in the local area that we should see? i.e. Naples, Salermo etc.

I'm from Salerno.
Yes in my area there is not only pompei and herculaneum.
Salerno is 40 Km from the Greek temples of paestum,5 min drive from the Amalfi coast, with its breathbreaking scenary ( Amalfi,Positano,ravello,the Wagner garden...
There are bus and boat connections many times a week from Salerno's harbour.

My town Salerno is one onf the cleanest city in the area but unfortunately turists only know naples and think campania is naples.

Well,
most people will say skip staying in Pompeii and stay in the AC which is really convenient. I prefer to stay in Naples (also very convenient) so that I can get to Capri, Pompeii/ Herculaneum, Paestum and still ferry to the AC if desired. Don't miss Capri, it's stunning
