Unfortunately, there is no changing facility inside the transit area. There are a couple of banks in the lobby, but you have to go through Immigration to get to them.
Now, you might think this is crazy, but there are cleaners and attandants all over the place who are able to go back and forth between the two areas freely. Ask one of them to change your money for you, and give him a tip when he does so. The way to find the right guy is to look for one who is hanging around near an Immigration or Customs cop, and tell the cop that you need to have some money changed. The cop will ask the cleaner to do it for you, and believe me, the cleaner will do it, give you your receipt, and he won't steal any. It's that kind of country. Just make sure there is a cop involved somehow -- and you don't have to tip the cop.
