| Dubrovnik | Vacation in Dalmation Coast Posted: Thu February 21, 2008 09:55 PM UTC
Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are arriving in Dubrovnik on the ferry from Bari. We'd like to spend about 4 days in Dubrovnik. We are looking for B&B accomodation and would appreciate recommendations. After that we will go north to Korticula, Hvar and Split. Taking the ferry back to Ancona. Is it worth while to rent a car for the journey to Split or is there a better way? |

Hi there
I've been there last year and it and I found a very good place to stay around Dubrovnik. Is a small island called Kolocep, only 15 minutos by boat from Dubrivnik. Take a look: http://www.kolocep.com/ If you want to go North, is good to rent a car for some days. Not far from Split there's the gratest place in the country: Plitvica National Lakes. You will love it if you like nature. You can see it in one day, eventually stay on a private acommodation. People are so nice and is not expensive at all. whc.unesco.org/en/list/98 www.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/cpage.aspx?page=default Cheers Miguel

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply. You've given us some food for thought when planning the route that we will take while in Croatia. Jeff

Consider:
1) What time of year? In summer, prebooking is advised. Other times, you can show up and find a place (go directly to tourist office, tell then what you want, and they will set you up). I have not been in Dbv more than one night since 03, so I cannot give specific recommendation, but there are 1000s of links for accomodation. I always select by location and view (and price of course). 2) How long will you be in each place? If stopping briefly in Korcula and Hvar, there is plenty to see in town and on foot or even bus without a car. However, if you will be there several days and want to explore entire island, you will need a car, but then you can also do a one-day rental and not have to queue up to get car on ferry the whole time, (and have options of using catamarans--see#3). 4 days in Dbv without a car may be long though, unless you plan on taking organized excursions. 3) Have you looked at jadrolinija ferry schedules? Route is Dbv, Korcula, Stari Grad (short bus to Hvar), Split, so no need for car unless ... (see #2). This is not a daily route, so you may have to have alternates, such as daily bus from Dbv to Korcula (this I highly recommend), catamaran to Hvar (dependent on season). There are many trips from Hvar (and/or Stari Grad) to Split. After considering those questions, feel free to ask more.

Hi!
I have a B&B Tip for you for Dubrovnik: We stayed in the friendly Bokun Guesthouse last spring and liked it very much. We didn't get breakfast there but seeing the breakfast being prepared (=fruit picked from the trees of the huge garden) we kinda regretted not asking for it. Their website is www.bokun-guesthouse.com. The location is great, 5 mts by bus into the old town and near the port and the main bus terminal. Hope this helps. Sabs

I can also recommend the Bokun guesthouse. We stayed there in 2006 and enjoyed the experience greatly. You would be advised to book well ahead, no matter what time of year you plan to be there, the guesthouse is mentioned in a French guidebook and is, justly, very popular.
