I will be in Monaco in March 2008 for 8 days - any suggestions on what to see and do, what to miss, day trips to france or italy?
Thanks! Sue |

Monaco can be seen in a day or two which will leave you plenty of time to explore further afield. Obviously Nice, Cannes, Antibes etc are easily accessible by train from Monaco. Trains go every twenty minutes or so and it's only 30 mins to Nice. From Monaco it is also only a short journey (10 mins by train) to Eze which I believe is well worth a look. If you want to be more adventurous, you could take a train to Genoa. This is a journey of about three hours (more or less depending on which train you get)and if you go to Genove Piazza Principe Train Station you will find that there is a lot you can see and do within walking distance of the station. There are also lots of bargains to be had at the markets down at the port which is five minutes from the Station.
There are endless possibilities when you are staying in Monaco and I'll bet that more VTers will chime in here with loads for you to choose from. Have a wonderful trip.

The mountains north of Monaco have a lot more than Eze to offer. St. Paul de Vence is one of several hill villages but features the Maeght Art Foundation modern art worth a visit. Tourette sur Loup is probably the prettiest hill village I have ever seen and less travelled than most. Consider driving up the gorge of the Loup River and perhaps ending in Gourdon, which is heavily touristed unfortunately but has a spectacular position on a cliff. Vence itself is a walled city, and just north of the city is the Matisse chapel.
Closer to the coastline, we found the Grimaldi Palace in Antibes with an amazing Picasso museum - just far enough from the carparks that the tourist busses can't disgorge their loads - we were alone in rooms just filled with Picasso, never hurried, never harrassed. Plenty to do.
