Thank you very much. I have checked Trenitalia but to know fares I had to register which I did; I was given a password TWICE which does not work! I just would like to know how much it would cost me to compare with the price of renting a car. We are 4 adults and a child.

First, you do not need a password to get pricing for trains. Go to www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html and enter the trip for Feb 25 (next Monday) as of 10:00 a.m. or so. You will see several solutions, each with different trains. This is important as different trains have different speeds, number of stops, fares, and accommodations.
Pick the 11:52 train (the first one) from Bergamo. Click on shopping cart icon on the far right (under "Buy"). You will see a new page but not much info yet. Click on 'Standard' for the Fare (we tourists are generally eligible for only two fares: Standard and Amica. More on that later). When you indicate Standard as the fare, the page will refresh and the fares for one adult first and second class will appear (these fares are ONE WAY): 25.50 and 21.50 euro respectively. Note: "children younger than 4 travel free of charge in both first and second class but they do not have the right to a seat. " (from the tariff regulations at the Trenitalia site). There is no discount for buying four tickets at once, so you can figure out the cost for the 4 adults...or use the pull down menu to indicate 4 adults and watch it refresh the page. Now go and look at the other solutions about the same time; because these are different types of trains, you may find that the fares will vary. I told you about the Amica fare - it is a 20% discount on selected seats on premium trains if you buy at least a day in advance. However, your train from Bergamo to Brescia (or Milan) is a regional train that doesn't offer this discount, so the Trenitalia site won't offer it to you as part of this trip. I would say that you could either try to buy two separate tickets and see if you could get the Amica pricing now, or, more reasonably, go to the station or to a travel agent in Bergamo and just ask about the Amica fare for the segment from Brescia to Venice, to see if you can get it... OK? Bill
