El Calafate glacier trekking clothing

Trying to lighten the load of baggage, because of heavy camera equipment. Is there a place in El Calafate to buy trekking clothes/shoe?
Thanks,
EG

If you are going to walk on the glacier as part of a tour, you dont need any special clothes, just something warm. And about the shoes, the tour company will give you something to mount on your own shoes.

You can buy anything you want in regards to clothing, shoes & supplies for trekking & camping in El Calafate... But you would be better to bring it with you (wear it!!!)

Thank you for replying. I'm actually going to photograph on the glacier and didn't want to get stuck without appropriate shoes for the crampons that would hamper my ability to scamper around with the tripod and camera.

To be on the safe side, buy boots with good ankle support.

If you have`nt photographed glaciers before, reduce the exposure setting of your camera by at least two settings. This brings out the different shades of blue in the ice.

Thanks Heinrich. Will stop down when shooting the glacier. Mainly I'm shooting with black and white film. Can you tell me more about hiking on the glacier...conditions...etc.

It will not be much warmer or any less windey in El Calafate than it will be on the glaciers. So you might want a wind & water proof jacket and comfortable hiking boots or leather shoes when you arrive. You can get by on jeans and gloves, scarfs and hats can be bought afforably in town. As noted the shops in El Calafate are expensive for outdoor wear.

I was there in late February a few years ago. Temps ranged from about 40 f - 55 f. I brought a fairly light wind proof jacket and would wear a few layers depending on the activity I was doing that day.
