You cannot gain entrance to Ghana without your Yellow fever certificate so do not forget that. I had the following needles when I stayed there for a few months.
Hepatitus A
Hepatitius B
Diptheria / Tetanus
Typhoid
Yellow Fever
Polio
I also carefully took my prescribed sub-saharan malaria tablets as I knew of the severity of the danger in Ghana. I did however still catch mild malaria... my father however was severely ill with malaria and parasites on the bowels... we later found out that epilepsy pills can prevent malaria pills from working effectively so always ensure you discuss the options of which type to take with a professional.
I would hurry with the others too as you need to have them in your system for a good while before you travel...
I would also advice you wear mosquito creams and try to prevent them coming into your room at night, I slept with a fan on to blow them off my body rather than use a net!
If you need any other help then email me and I will respond as soon as I can. :)
On a positive note...Ghana is one of the best places I have ever visited... there is also several variants of medication available to counteract diseases, i took the malaria meds and I am fine now :)
One more tip, if you are going to a very rural area then I would also recommend you have the rabies and meningitus injections... just in case.
There are numerous sites you can visit to check out what are essential and advised.
Happy travelling. Nicola
