The Sablon is fine though not particularly convenient for stations, your best bet would probably be to take bus 27 from the Gare du Midi (though you don't say how you are arriving in Brussels. You also don't say what sort of accommodation you want, but 2 choices at opposite ends of the spectrum are the Jolly Hotel in the Place du Grand Sablon itself and the Bruegel Hostel next to La Chapelle Church: http://www.hostelz.com/hostel/11766-International-
I have no idea what kind of beer you would like to try, of the many varieties on offer, just look at the menu in any of the local cafés. If you visit the Galeries St. Hubert, however, and exit the side furthest away from the Grand' Place, just up on the right you will find the Mort Subite, a famous beer café. Here are some to look for: http://belgianstyle.com/mmguide/example/label.php3 Apart from the Sablon itself (which is an expensive area btw), if you follow the rue de l'hopital downhill or take any bus going to the Bourse, the area opposite that - take the street to the right of O'Reilly's - has lots of bars. I would not have said Brussels was famous for lobster, more for mussels and frites. There is a bistrot at the bottom of the rue de Rollebeek, a pedestrianized street that starts next to Godiva at the "bottom" or downhill end of the Sablon (it slopes), opposite the Crosley Bowling, which would probably do you fine. Or, go to Chez Leon in the rue des Bouchers (just off the middle of the Galeries St. Hubert, near the Grand' Place) - but don't fall for any of the other restaurants in that street which have seafood displays outside: they are well-known as tourist traps, applying cover charges that never apply elsewhere in Brussels and somehow sneaking things onto the bill or otherwise inflating it. Enjoy the sight, but I really would not recommend that you eat there. You can see Chez Léon's menu on here: http://uk.chezleon.be/index.asp?ID=777
