| Tromsø | Bus and Coastal streamer journey through Aurora lands Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 07:19 PM UTC
I read from the www.destinasjontromso.no site, one of the suggested activities is to take a bus through the lyngen alps and return by Hurtigruten from Skjervoy to Tromso.
I went to the www.177troms.no website however there is no english. Could anyone advise which bus I should take to Skjervoy? how long would the journey take? if there is any recommended schedule/time of the day I should start this journey so I can take the 7:45pm express boat from Skjervoy back to Tromso. I cannot see the price on the hurtigruten site. does anyone also know the approx. price? Thanks in advance! |

Try rutebok.no - there's an English version of that site. (You'll want to leave from Tromsø Prostneset, which is the main bus stop in Tromsø) There seems to be a bus from Tromsø at 10.50, arriving Skjervøy at 15. There's also one bus from Tromsø at 16, arriving Skjervøy at 19.40.
You'll find the price for Hurtigruten if you go to this website http://www.hurtigruten.com/en/default.aspx and choose "online booking" to the left - but according to destinasjontromso.no the price for the round trip is NOK 475 (Children/senior citizens: NOK 325). You can contact the tourist information office (email address can be found on destinasjontromso.no) to buy tickets (and to get more info)

The Lyngen Alps are quite stunning, the scenery in this area is great. So I'd say that yes, it's worth doing - but only in spring / summer (when you'll have daylight during the entire journey) and not in winter when it'll be dark for parts (or all!) of it.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. The Hurtigruten / aka the coastal voyager / aka the coastal steamer goes all along the coast from Bergen in western Norway (that's where it starts) up north to Kirkenes by the Russian border. The return trip Bergen - Kirkenes - Bergen takes 11 days. See hurtigruten.no for more info.
The daytrip from Tromsø to Skjervøy is in northern Norway - taking Hurtigruten from Bergen to Tromsø takes ...3? 4? days. :o)
