Hi fellow VTers,

On behalf of a friend, can anyone give a ball park figure for daily car hire with a view to travelling out from Havana around Cuba and returning to Havana? Also, any good car hire recommendations?

Also looking for accommodation recommendations in the US$12 per night per person budget range.

Hi...car hire rates in Cuba are high so expect to pay no less than 30cuc/day for a small car, like a Daewo Tico or similar. For bigger cars the rate goes up and up. Give it a try on "Rent a Car" agency or check out this website:

Another option is to travel via bus. U can rely on Via Azul bus company, they offer a reliable service all over cuba and they travel to almost all the main cities and touristic destinations. Prices range from about 15cuc for short travels like Havana-Varadero or up to about 50CUC for almost 1000km travel Havana-Santiago. Is up to U what to choose.

I recomend U Havana Vieja or Centro Habana for budget accomodation. U can try Vedado municipality but here the prices are usually over the 15CUC/night.
