Hello!
I wonder which hostel or cheap hotel in Hanoi would you recommend? This would be my first time to Vietnam and I do not really know what to expect, so your opinions would be very welcome - as well as all other tips on how to spend three days in Hanoi (and area) the best (I can wake up very early, it's not a problem! I enjoy more seeing how people live then visiting museums... (BTW: if any locals want to meet and chat - please write. I am going to be there between 6 and 9 March) Happy travels to all, Marcin |

Stay in the Old Quarter, that's where you'll find all the cheap backpacker hotels and hostels. We planned to see the rest of the city but The Old Quarter is so cool we never left. Once you arrive there you will fins so many sleeping options. I recommend the Thu Giang Guest House...
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/48554/169bcf/3/ Rates Singles: $3 - $5 US Twins: $6 - $8 US Doubles: $7 - $10 US Triples: $8 - $12 US Family (4-5 people): $13 - $15 US Phone: (84-4) 8285734 or (84-4) 9285761 Address: 5A Tam Thuong Street Website: www.tgguesthouse.com It's a family run place and the staff is lovely. They will also help you book any travel or excursions at a good price. One thing to keep in mind... It is a common practice in Hanoi for guesthouses to give up your reservation. BUT if you do make a reservation and they give your room to someone else before you arrive they will place you at another nearby guest house for the same price. This happened to us our first night (at a different guest house) and we learned that this happens all the time. They work on a first come first serve basis. Hanoi is my favorite city in Vietnam, maybe the world. You're going to love it. It's charming. You could easily spend three days in the Old Quarter alone, walking the streets and seeing the sights.
