I went to Marrakech last year in February and would live there if I could. They were the nicest and friendliest people I've ever met in my travels. We stayed at the Riad Enija, on the expensive side but what a place. It was unbelievble. We ate dinner one night at the Riad and the other night at Dar Yacout. It was the most unbelievable place I have ever been. If you can afford it, you should try to eat there. I beleive it was around $100 per person, not sure the kids prices but I just can't begin to tell you how beautiful it was. Like you'd died and gone to Ali Babba heaven. Words cannot describe it. Try to stay in a place in the old walled in section of town around the Jemma El Fena. That place is amazing at night. I'm envious that you're going there. Like I said I would live there if I could.

The Best and cheapest way to travel from Marrakech to Essaouira is by Supratours bus. It is not possible to book the bus from outside Morocco. The Bus station is by the train station. It is advisable to buy your tickets the day before you travel, it costs 65 dirham one way (£4.30) + 5dirhams for each piece of luggage. There are 5 buses a day, & the journey takes 3 hours including a 20 minute tea stop. The weather is likely to be warm but windy, and cooler at night. The Atlantic ocean is cold, OK for a paddle but not swimming unless you have a wet suit. There are a few hotels with pools but they are not cheap and not heated, but for 50dirham per day per person you can use the pools in the Hotel Des Isles and Hotel El Jezira. Personally I would not come to Morocco to eat Italian food. For Moroccan food try Ferdaouz. The Kids will probably like the menu at "La Cantina" You will find the menu on my Essaouira page. ( tell them I sent you)
A taxi from Marrakech airport to town should cost 100dirham, but you might need to haggle a bit. Try to get your hotel to book your taxi, its less hassle.
Enjoy your trip

Try Villa des trois golfs in Marrakech, a nice guest house in the palmeraie area with a beautiful heated pool.
The rate is quite reasonable. You will be offered a free transfer back & forth (airport). They have a vehicule with adriver which can take you to Essaouira with a nogociable price.
their website is:

cheers,
Rachid

As theres 4 of you, unless you have an aversion to driving anywhere in any country, id recommend a rental car as being the best way to get there - there are places you can drive to from Essaouira - go down the coast to lovely beaches and places to stay down there (Jimmy Hendrixs haunts) or up the coast to see the Argane trees and goats in them perhaps and so on. Its nice to get about independently and be able to stop where you want to stop and so on.
March is a lovely month to be in Morocco in - spring and spring flowers and blossoms and so on can be quite prolific, the countryside usually green and lovely looking which can be difficult to get photos from bus windows (which are often dirty or or shaded)
