| Seoul | Which transport ticket should we buy? Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 07:59 PM UTC
Hi,
We will be in Seoul for 2 weeks in July, the place we are staying is not very central so we will have to rely on the subway a lot to get around. My question is, which is the best ticket to buy? I have been on the Seoul subway site and it has a few different kinds of pre-pay tickets, T card, Metro Pass and Transit Cards, we want to be able to be flexible as to where we go and not have to worry about having to keep topping up a card. Also do they include bus travel? |

Hmmm....if you initially charge your T-money card to the maximum amount when you first get it, it is definitely a better bet than the Metro Pass, Transit Cards or Seoul Pass in my opinion. The reason is mainly that the pass is usually for commuters that will be using the same route daily as the rules for using them is somewhat confining and you wouldn't have the flexibility that you are seeking. Also, as far as I know, the passes can't be used for bus travel. The T-money on the other hand can be used for the bus...in fact it is required, because the buses don't take cash anymore. Although the Seoul Pass can also be used on the bus, you are limited to certain zones within Seoul that you can use it. Therefore, again, the T-Money card is your best bet for the length of time you will be in Seoul. You shouldn't have to recharge it more than once depending on how much travel you intend to do. Bonus is, you can get a refund of what you don't use on your T-money card when you leave.

Yep, I definitely agree with olddude: T-Money is the way to go!
In addition to subway and bus you can also use it for paying at certain convenience stores, museums, McD, etc... really practical to have and even if you have to re-load it, it's a quick and extremely easy process which can be done at any subway station within 20 seconds. Cheers, Robert

Olddude,
Good information about the tickets. But, as far as I know Buses CAN be paid for with cash. I recently had to pay with cash because my T-money card was empty. However, that doesn't effect the OP.
