| Honolulu | "The Boat" Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 02:51 AM UTC
Has anyone taken The Boat (part of the transit system) from the Aloha Tower to Barbers Point? If so, is it worth going on? Is there much to see at Barbers Point? Are there any restaurants there?

Aloha,
I have not yet taken the boat, even though I live 10 minutes from Barbers Point. As far as restaurants on Barbers, there are none. There is a beach shack at white plains beach, but nothing better than that. The only thing to see at Barbers would be hanging out at the beaches. Now that it is a decommissioned base, it has deteriorated severely. There are still small military activated businesses open on Barbers, but you need a military ID to access those; bowling alley, gas station, mini mart, etc. Mahalo, Jhylia

If you have military base access, you could take a free tour of Pearl Harbor via the commuter water taxi (aka grey boat or ferry) to/from Iroquois Point to/from various piers at Pearl Harbor Naval Base & Ford Island. The water taxi takes you past submarines/surface ships and views of the Arizona Memorial & USS Missouri.

We have been to the Barber's Point area. We are "lighthouse" people and went to see the lighthouse there. Also, there is a luau close to the lighthouse.

I haven't taken the BOAT yet bet they do allow passengers to take food on board with them.. The ride is about 55 minutes in full. You can read more about it on the BUS website.. http://www.thebus.org/

I talked with a bus driver and he said it was somewhat complicated to make a round trip. In any case, my fun here ends on Sunday so it'll have to wait until next time.
Mahalo for all your help!

I believe there are two times during the day on week days..not weekends ,that the Boat makes round trips to and from the starting locations...again check the BUS website ..it has those mentioned..
