| Interlaken | Skiing in May? Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 01:53 AM UTC
We are going to be staying in Interlaken from 21 May through 25 May 2008. It seems that we are right between the winter (until 20 May) and summer (starting 1 June) ski seasons for the region! While we realized that the timing of our trip may not be feasible to skiing, does anybody happen to know if it is possible, and where? Thanks!

Hi
To ski in late May you need to go to a glacier (above 3000 mtrs) and the only ones I know of in Switzerland are either Zermatt or Les Diablerets (perhaps Saas Fe as well). They are not really that close to Interlaken but if you are prepared to stay a couple of days in say, Zermatt then skiing is possible. By the way, Zermatt is a car free town so you will need to get the train in. There is some galcier skiing in Austria as well (Hintertux and Dachstein Glacier). Hope this helps a little.

Almost no one in May in Switzerland has his mind on skiing... As the previous poster said, only some glacier skiing might be available, which means that your stay in Interlaken is inadequate for this.
May can be an 'in-between' period. There is no skiing anymore, but there can still be some snow, or the hiking paths can be soaky. A lot depends on March and April weather. Why would you stay in Interlaken. Interlaken is the place from where you go to the surrounding mountain villages, it is not a typical swiss old town where you linger for days.

Hi,
If you come begining of May, I can organize for you Heliski. But like the other answer, it's better to come in Valais, not in Interlaken. For more question contact us, our website www.lagrandemaison.ch Pascal
