Abisko Nationalpark Travel Forum

I'm planning to walk from Abisko to Nikkaluokta during the first week of july 2008.
Do I need to carry sleeping bag and tent, and food for all the trip? Can I buy some food in the huts along the trail?
Usually I've been walking in several countries and I use to avoid heavy rucksacks, so I don't know if it's possible to stay by the end of each day in a Hut.
Could you tell me the best places to stay? (I'd like to rest every day in a hut. Idon't know either if kitchen is available every day)

Wow -- you plan to hike the entire Kungsleden! My compliments. My only advice: Bring mosquito repellent! 8)

A good place to start would be the National Geographic article on the Kungsleden (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0505/classic_trails_03.html).

Also, VT "All-Star" Simone ("Sim1") has lots of experience hiking in northern Sweden. Her pages are likely a good place to start browsing for ideas.

The first week of July is probably very popular for trekking there so if the huts are full when you arrive you have to sleep on the floor or outside.

that is between Abisko-Kebnekaise with skiis and that takes 8 days 12-23 kms/day. So you probably have to walk fast to make it in one week.
