we looked at el convento ... sold out. What's left is too expensive. We are in Rio Grande for 6 days and wanted San Juan (affordable and w/in walking) for Thurs and Fri 2/28-3/1. Any suggestions?? Thanks

Try Priceline.com and bid for a resort...you will most likely get either the Intercontinental or Hilton Caribe (both great resorts near San Juan and Old San Juan).

I stayed at a wonderful little guest house when I was in San Juan this past summer. It was called The Andalucia, here's a link to their page http://www.andalucia-puertorico.com/
it's about a 20 minute bus ride from old san juan or 5 minutes in a cab. I found the guest house to be very personal and friendly.
