Does anyone has recommendation of any off beaten path to visit in Nanjing & Suzhou other than the touristy place?

I wouldn't say the Nanjing Massacre Memorial is "touristy", as it's a rather solemn place, but it's probably not on every tourist's radar. In any case I strongly recommend a visit. Other suggestions include the Nanjing Urban Planning Exhibition Centre, Paleontology Museum etc.
I also liked going for a teahouse (http://www.qtcr.com) in Suzhou -- unlimited refills of tea, buffet of snacks and a pingtan (traditional story-telling) performance in the evenings.

In Nanjing, go to Castle Bar (near Gulou Metro station). It is not a normal tourist destination, and has the feel of a real western dive bar- its in the basement of a McDonald's, it is open till dawn, and it attracts some of the city's more colorful characters.
