| Nice | from Toulon to Nice Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 07:20 AM UTC
My cruise ship will be docking in Toulon. I would like to know if there is any buses or trains that I can take from Toulon to Nice, how long the trip is and approxiametely how much it would cost?

You should know the departure from ship to dock time not arrival time in port. There are trains running all day from Toulon to Nice. Make sure you get back in time to catch the ship. Allow yourself at least 1 hour before sailing time from train station to ship. The time is about 1hr45min each way and prices vary from about E20 to E30 each way per person for class. Check out the rail fare site for Canada to get times and cost: http://www.raileurope.ca/canada

Better than checking out the railfare site for Canada would be checking out the site for France...
Price is 21.40 one way with all trains except TGV, which are a few euros more. You can jsut buy your ticket on the spot at the railways station.

Thank you for the tips they were helpful. I will not be going to Nice because I am in port from 10am-8pm and there is not enough time to go and back instead I will visit the area and islands around Toulon.

Perhaps my saying website raileurope.ca/canada was not clear enough. That is the site where living in Canada can book tickets on trains in France with the rates based on Canadian dollar. As for not doing Nice, that was a wise choice. Why not take the train to Marseilles from Toulon. No booking needed. Show up at the train station in Toulon and get ticket for Marseilles. Trains leave about every 1/2 hour in both directions, all day. Great seaport city, Marseilles, as well as great seafood. Just spending time in the Quartier du Panier is worth the train ride.
