My son and his wife failed to find accommodation even before the tickets actually went on sale.
You might have to think about moving up in to the Valleys - Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil (I know there is a Premier Inn there)
Cwmbran, Newport.

Thank you so much for your reply, but after I posted my question I managed to book a B&B called Domus in Newfort Road.... no idea what it looks like but it will be somewhere to rest for the night.
Thanks again

That's good news!.
Thanks for letting us know. I must pass that place every time I go in to Cardiff - I think it must be Domus at 201 Newport Road ( not Newfort).
Enjoy the concert and have a good sleep afterwards!

It's certainly at the quieter end of Newport Road as you drive away from the City. I shall be going in to the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay on Sat. evening this week and, as long as it looks as though the traffic on Newport Road is OK ( Wales is playing Italy in the 6 Nations that afternoon) I'll make a point of looking out for it and will let you know!

Re: HELP!!!!!!! accommodation needed for sat 14th June 2008 Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 08:13 PM UTC
They do have a web site - http://domuscardiff.com/index.html
It says that it is a 5 minute walk from the city centre. I guess that as long as you walk very fast, it might be possible. I'd say it's more like 15 minutes walk away.
I'm also not sure why, if the guest house is called The Domus, they have a photo of the Mayfair guest house on the gallery page???
The area is ok as long as you dont go wandering off up the side streets late at night on your own. Do make sure that you lock your car securely. Not that its not safe around there but for something that I do not want to mention here in a public forum as I dont want to offend anyone. However, should you email me then I will let you know.
Overall though, for a night's stay, there's nothing wrong with either the area or the guest house and you should like the city centre a lot as there's loads of bars, clubs and restaurants near to the stadium.

I think the web site Dave has found must be new! Perhaps Domus took over the Mayfair?
I agree with Dave that the walk into the City centre would be a lot longer than 5 minutes at a normal walking pace. I'll keep my eyes skinned for Domus/Mayfair if we go into Cardiff Bay via Newport Road on Saturday.

Re: HELP!!!!!!! accommodation needed for sat 14th June 2008 Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 08:54 PM UTC
That's what I thought, but the Mayfair guest house is at 134 Newport Rd and the Domus is at 201 Newport Rd.
Another oddity is that both web sites are identical, even down to the gallery pictures.
One of them is telling porkies and I guess it's the Domus, going by the signage outside the place.
This begs the question, what is the Domus guest house really like if they are using another guest house's web site data?
If I get time, I will drive past them both and try and see what both are like.

Re: HELP!!!!!!! accommodation needed for sat 14th June 2008 Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 09:05 PM UTC
Forgot to include the web address in my last posting -
http://www.mayfaircardiff.com/index.html
and
http://domuscardiff.com/index.html
I checked on both sites and they were registered in November 2007 by the same company (Easy Internet Solutions Ltd ), also based on Newport Rd though at a different address.
## Easy Internet Solutions Ltd is a legitimate company and I do not imply for one minute that it is the owner of the guest houses, it merely registered the names on behalf of it's client.

Well my friends I am truly impressed by your gumshoe endeavours!!!! It rings a bell now when I called they Mayfair the girl said can I give you another number to ring.... which when I was booking it I said to the guy so what are you called? He Said the Domus, I asked if they had a website and he said no, we are currently working on the facilities which should be looking good by the time you come down in June!!! It sounded fine, just as long as it's not some homeless hostel!!!!!!!!!!!!! But again, EVERYWHERE I have tried has been totally fully booked.
Thanks again to you
Have a good weekend

I will look out for it tomorrow if we pass down Newport Road. I think I should say - as you obviously know what's what - that the establishments on this road do contain a real mixture of quite smart looking B&B / commercial type hotels and everything in between down to your worst fears! But the web site Dave found was encouraging...........

The Travelodge at Caerphilly would have been an excellent choice at an excellent location with an excellent train service to cardiff! They have a double room available for £59 for the date you want.

If you will have transport the Caerphilly option would be great - it was one of the ones I originally had in mind. But a taxi after the show would put another £25++ on the bill from Cardiff. Last train from Cardiff to Caerphilly may be too early - then Taxi from Station to hotel....

Re: HELP!!!!!!! accommodation needed for sat 14th June 2008 Posted: Sun February 24, 2008 12:48 AM UTC
Lesley - you asked what the Newport Road B&B looked like from the outside.
I had a good look on the way in (6.15) and out (11.35) of Cardiff tonight.
My heart sank when I saw it! No way would I step inside the place as it looks now.
A dim light in every room; dirty windows; dirty, bedraggled lace curtains at half mast; open front door - dimly lit passageway; one or two men in hanging about the doorway. In other words in currently gives all the appearance of a very down at heel doss house. There is a sign-board in the patch of fron garden stating the name and acalling it a Guest House.
No sign of any major works of improvement being underway.
The Mayfair, on the other side of the road and almost opposite, looks smarter. Neon lighting for signs - a bit garish - but the place was much better presented.
Sorry - I know that is not what you hoped to hear!

Re: HELP!!!!!!! accommodation needed for sat 14th June 2008 Posted: Sun February 24, 2008 07:18 PM UTC
Maybe it is best that cutiepadger knows what the hotel is like now, rather than when she arrives in June.
Try doing a 'google' on 'accommodation in cardiff' or by calling the Cardiff tourist information office - Tel: +44 (0) 8701 211 258. E-mail: visitor@cardiff.gov.uk
This may seem like a stupid thing to recommend, but have you thought about hiring a camper van for the weekend? I have done this in the past and made a weekend break of it, rather than just the one night.

Well I'm well and truly depressed now, checked out the Travel lnn and it's full too. Called the Tourist Board and they have nothing, so it looks like we're stuck with the Domus.
Thanks for everyone who has gone out of there way to help me and offer advice.

I hope you find alternative accomodation. Meanwhile, have you looked at this site? - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=guest+houses&near=Cardiff,+South+Glamorgan&fb=1&view=text&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=1&ct=more-results&cd=1
I did notice that the Domus guest house is listed here too!
