| Damascus | a friend in Damascus!! Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 01:22 PM UTC
U know its a way off yet, but next January/February, i am planning to go from Istanbul to Cairo overland. I will be visiting Syria and Damascus in particular, and as I am travelling alone, i would very much like to have a contact in Damascus who could help me avoid problems etc, and see me safely on my way. I would also love to visit Palmyra.I would of course reciprocate to anyone coming to Wales!!.Thankyou

Thankyou for your reply. I will probably spend some time in Aleppo, so I will get in touch with you nearer the time. I'm 62, a fairly experienced traveller, though not in the middle East, so need all the help I can get I guess. Are you a professional guide, and what are the ruins near Aleppo?.

He's a VTer, serena.
I know he's busy with some exams these days, but should be over soon. You can contact him through VT - he's really very helpful. As for Aleppo, Fouads (also a VTer) and his family are very helpful, too. I Think that you should get in touch with him, too. Happy travels in wonderful Syria. I can assure you that you'll have a very hassle-free time in the country. I also travelled alone when I went there the first time, and I had a really great trip. Syrian people are wonderful and, though some might find it strange for a woman to travel alone, they all tend to be very protective. If you need any information, please get in touch. I will try my best to help you. Best greetings from Switzerland Rhia
