| Katowice | Please please advise!! Katowice to Krakow bus, safety and ATMs Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 09:04 AM UTC
Hi...I will be arriving at Katowice airport on Tuesday at 21:00, do you think there will still be a bus to Krakow at that time?
Also, I had a look at the links that people have posted here about the bus to Krakow, and am a little confused...would you mind clarifying what the name of the minibus company is? I can't understand enough Polish to book online, do you think it would be ok to buy a ticket on the day? Also, when arriving in Krakow on the bus, would it be safe to walk to my hostel (there will be 2 of us)? One more question...is there an ATM at the airport at Katowice? Many thanks! |

Hiya,
Yes as you will see from the link i will post there is a bus at 23:40. I know it means you will have quite a wait after arrival but better than the next day i guess. The link is: http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/poland.html#KTW toandfromtheairport.com is a great website and is kept pretty well up to date so hopefully it will help you in the future too. You will see how to book on this link & as for the question about Krakow being safe i would say yes it's a perfectly safe city. Sorry cannot help about the ATM question as i haven't been to Katowice. Have a great time in Poland, Darren.

Here's transport info in English:
http://www.katowice-airport.com/eng/index.html?page=dojazdy The bus transfer to Krakow with www.matuszek.com.pl (links with flights) definitely requires online reservation. You can buy a ticket online on this link (in English): http://grey.turystyka.com.pl/~wizzair/index.php?lang=en This online translator will heklp if you're worried: http://www.translation-guide.com/free_online_trans I never felt in the least unsafe in Krakow (single female, albeit middle-aged) so I'm sure you needn't worry about that. But do book the bus ticket in advance!

Just one more question, having looked at the websites...there seem to be more than one shuttle service? Is that right? Is there a particular one we should be taking?
Thanks again Sally

Now I'm confused........I thought the link I gave was for the bus (MATUSZEK - to CRACOW ) which has to be reserved in advance and links with inbound/outbound flights. There probably are several shuttle services too, but these tend to be more expensive than the 'ordinary' bus.
I'd book the bus which links with your flight from the links I gave: at least you can be pretty certain it will wait if the flight is delayed.

Sally , with the toandfromtheairport.com link there is only one bus that goes to Krakow. The link to buy tickets is on that same page.

Thanks ghosthunter and leics...unfortunately my flight isn't linked with any of the buses on the website (I fly with Ryanair), I think I will go ahead and book one of those buses that best fits in with my flight though...the actual booking page itself is rather confusing! But hopefully will work it all out. I really appreciate the help - without you I would be even more lost!
Cheers Sally

Just on case you miss your bus, or something goes wrong take TAXI to the train station (the main one) and there is plenty of the night trains to Krakow. ALL SAFE. You can buy the ticket on the train of no one speeks english. Just you write word KRAKOW on the piece of paper and show it to people to make sure you are on the right train. Train tickets are cheap so don't worry.
Krakow is as safe as it can be unless you get drunk and behave badly and meet some other drunk and misbehaving group of young people who would like to "wrestle" with you ;-) We went to Krakow with my American hubby many times, and walked arround during the day and nights, always taking night trains....never worried about our safety. In Krakow, there is plenty of young English speeking people to show you the way to your hotel, just ask "do you speak English?" On the night train I DO keep my money and cards in the body belt under my clothes, but in Krakow, just secured safely on the bottom of my backpack....just on case. I don't know about ATM's on the airport but I would be surprised of there would be none. Poland is full of ATM's. We travel with credit cards and take money every 2 days.

I have absolutely no idea. But you may find Easyjet offer onward tickets during the flight (as they do, for example, for the Stansted Express) and/or there may be a booth in the arrivals hall.

I'd try booking on
http://grey.turystyka.com.pl/~wizzair/index.php?lang=en again. If you still have no luck, it's probably worh calling the number at the bottom of the page. You'll almost certainly get someone who speaks English who can advise you (probably even book the ticket).

Sally , You will be able to pay on the night for the slightly more expensive shuttle bus as i've just checked and it says " discount IF you book in advance online ". Obviously this means paying on the night will cost a bit more but for peace of mind i don't think you will mind that. This was on the toandfromtheairport website. The bus J (Leics)suggested is also on there underneath the shuttle bus. My advice would be not to panic - you will not be the only people going to Krakow & i guarantee you will get there. Have fun.
