Warsaw sim-card in warsaw
Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 06:50 AM UTC
Hi,
I would like to get a pre-paid simcard while in Warsaw. What are the best options? Are there any limits in the duration of sim-cards availability or the avilability of the credit? Should I bring a passport to the shop when getting one?

cheers

Last year we bought for 9 zloty - I think - in Gdansk - but I think it is the same for Warsaw. Just in small mobil-shops. We didn't have to show any passport. But there were different kind, those where the duration was longer also.

You should bring your phone and money. Nothing else.
Make sure your phone is "sim free" and not "locked" to use only crds sold by your mobile service provider (in some countries some providers do that if you buy the phone from them). It cost me 20 PLN to unblock it and open it to any card/provider.

Last months I bought 2 sim cards with "orange" network/provider. First one was for 15 PLN which was valid for 1 months for outgoing calls and 1 year for incoming calls, from moment of starting it. The other one was for 50 PLN and was good for 3 months for uotgoing calls (or 6 months for 100 PLN). Same 1 year for incoming calls. Each time you reload your creadit it starts the counting of time accordingly.

You can buy this card in any of the many booths dealing with mobile phone in the underground passage/world by the cenral train station, or 'center' roundabout or any other of those kind of shops.

Pre-paid cards are sold in all news agencies and newspaper kiosks. Orange's OK, Tak-Tak's not too bad neither.
