I haven't heard about any protests, but I do know that the trail to Machu Picchu is always closed for the entire month of February for restoration by the Peruvian Government.

Yes, there is a strike going on, starting tomorrow till sometime next week, we dont know either. As of right now the only tourism facility taht will be closed is the airport but the strikers are trying to close down MachuPichu as well. Doubt it will happen. As far as security goes, its a peacefull strike, there are no manifestations.

Here is the latest new from yesterday
The strikers who were blocking the rail line at Izcuchaca yesterday are no longer doing so, and Peru Railīs service is open all the way to Cusco today, whereas yesterday the trains were going only as far as Ollantaytambo and Peru Rail was providing a shuttle service to Cusco. The word this morning (from the 7 am radio news broadcast) is that there will be a 48-hour general strike in the Cusco region starting tomorrow which will apparently bring economic activity in the region to a stop. It would appear that earlier calls for an indefinite strike have come to nothing. Peru Rail has still not announced what it plans to do tomorrow and the day after in the face of general strike action. Given that instead of calling for an indefinite general strike, strike action in the region is being called sporadically, there is no information available as yet regarding possible disruptions next week, we are of the opinion that there will not be further strike action during next week.
