| Aruba | Aruba- A few questions for first time visitors Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
Hello,
I was wondering about something. My husband, my son and I are going to Aruba in June for the first time. We booked everything with www.destinationcompare.com and was able to compare and get the best rates for a family. My question is, a lot of friends are telling us that this is not a good time to travel to Aruba because of all of the press with the Natalie Holloway case and that we would not get any peace and quiet. Is this true? Is there anyone out there on this forum that can verify this? Please advise, Tricia |

I was in Aruba last December, and it was OK then and I saw no difference between then and 2005 or 2006 when we were there. I do not think the Holloway case will impact tourists very much.

I am not sure when you posted this, I think it was in 2008, we just got back to the states from Aruba, and not a mention of the Holloway case was said. We felt safe, there are alot of police and security guards at our hotel at night. We stayed at the Hyatt by the way. We felt that every precaution was taken to make their guests feel safe. The downtown are might be more dodgy. There is a huge oil refinery on the island and many of the workers go to the city to gamble, so caution there. Also, the cruise ships release their workers for leave and they are also in the city (usually at the Renaissance). So, trust your judgement. I feel it is much safer than Cancun or some other cities that some might venture too.

Natalie Holloway disappeared in 2005. I was in Aruba in Dec 2006/Jan 2007 and found the place to be idyllic, peaceful and beautiful. We were not hassled by anyone. I know that there was additional press about this case in late 2007 but as the case was reopened in 2008 I imagine all that has quietened down now.
People disappear in all countries of the world all the time. You just have to be cautious no matter where you are, even at home.
