I highly recommend Angkor Village designed and owned and run by an architect couple: frensh husband and khmer wife, tastefully decorated and with lots of french touches. there are two.. angkor village which is right in the downtown area across the river and another one which is a short ride away on the way to the temples.
check their website at angkorvillage.com Both places have very romantic ambience and the restaurants are good value and aesthetically pleasing.

I would recommend the Bopha of Angkor, which is owned and run by Cambodians. Its location is good to both Ankor andthe old market area in Siem Reap. People were very friendly, pool area was nice and food was very good.

I have stayed at Bopha of Angkor, with its nice restaurant, but do you think it is a four star hotel? the OP wanted four star hotels. Tah Prohm which is right in the centre also is a good hotel but it is not a four star hotel..for example

The hotel Angkor Village resort is showing full at the time I wish to visit they are offering Angkor Palace resort as alternative - what do you think or any other options? I stayed before in Victoria hotel (Vietnam) and it was very good is the one here just as good - but probably just too expensive!

you can email Ko Maung Maung at mandalayinn@gmail.com and ask for his recommendations. He lives in Siem Reap and is a hotelier himself (but his hotel is a good value for budget travellers) and works as one of the managers at Angkor Village. He will have a very good idea of what is happening. I cannot believe how rapidly Siem Reap is evolving and there are now hotels after hotels and an insiders view might be greatly helpful. You can tell Maung, that his brother told you to write to him, so dont feel you are bothering him.

One of my favourite hotels on my far east tour last year happened to be in Siem Reap. The Day Inn is a 4 star located on a side street about 10-15 minutes walk from down town or a 2 minute tuk tuk ride.
Rooms are excellent and set in a courtyard style so that they all overlook the swimming pool. Staff were very friendly and helpful and always keen to practice their English language skills. I would definitely stay here again if I were to return. Check it out at: www.dayinnangkor.com
