Follow our visit to the Hluhluwe Park we want to go to the Boar War sites around Ladysmith. From what I have read, they are difficult to find and a guided tour is recommended. Does anyone know if it is possible to join a group tour rather than do it on an individual basis. Thanks

No - I haven't done any of these tours, but I have a friend in Inguavuma and have looked at various tour possibilities in that region for a possible visit to her. So just a happy coincidence. Hope you find the kind of thing you are looking for!

I know you are after Boer War tours, but the following is info about the Anglo-Zulu wars.

I highly recommend Fugitive's Drift Lodge. http://www.fugitivesdrift.com/ I know quite a few people who have gone on their tours of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift. The tours used to be run often by David Rattray, who was unfortunately murdered. However there is sufficient knowledge and passion left behind at the lodge to still be able to provide a fantastic tour. I would also recommend his CD series "Day of the Dead Moon" which is a descriptive "lecture" about the Anglo-zulu wars - fascinating (and turned me into an antisocial holidaymaker a few years ago, when all I wanted was to hear the next installment.)

(the written word can be much more severe than intended, so please understand I do not mean to be critical) Just to be pedantic, Boar is a pig, and Boer is Afrikaans for a farmer. :)

I am not sure how much time you have but a really great combination is Fugitives Drift and Three Tree Hill Lodge. Fugitives Drift concentrates on the boer and english wars and then Three tree hill concentrates on Boer and Zulu war and it is so interesting to get both points of view it is very enlightning indeed.

It is quiet difficult getting space so be sure to book well ahead.
