| Arizona | Comments/recommendations about our ‘Grand Circle’trip Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 03:31 PM UTC
We have already booked our tickets from A’dam to Phoenix for a visit in June to the National Parks in Arizona and Utah. We are planning to follow (more or less) the so called ‘Grand Circle’ with most probably stays in (or around):
Phoenix > Holbrook > Chinle > Kayenta > Moab (3 nights) > Torrey (2 nights) > Bryce Canyon (2 nights) > Springdale > Kanab > Grand Canyon (2 nights) > Sedona > Phoenix. I have/will read all VT TravelGuides about these destinations, but I have already some questions: - any comments on our itinerary ? - any recommendation for (special/nice) lodgings ? - any recommendations for hidden gems/off the beaten path sights along the route or in the parks ? - any recommendations for walks/hikes ? Your answers are most welcome. Jaap |

I would recommend as something of a hidden gem, Goose Necks State park in Utah, not far from the town of Mexican hat. It's not as grand as the grand canyon, but much less visited and more approachable. It's quite good. Also enjoyed natural bridges and the road (I believe 9) that leads from Tropical (back side of Bryce and a great place to hike in from) to St. George, through zion is pretty stupendous. what a great trip! Northern Arizona and S. utah are terrific!

Googled around and found indeed some amazing pics of Goosenecks State Park.
I suppose you you mean the road from TROPIC (instead of Tropical) to St.George ?? Added both to my 'to see list'. Thanks.

Ah yes...sorry about that...the road goes through Zion and you have to pay the entrance fee even if just passing through, but it's well worth it. The road is interesting in that at some points you are driving along a ridge that is only about 10 yards wider than the road itself on both sides. I remember it being quite something...like driving on a tight rope. ;)
