| Maui | Tips on purchasing Maui activities: online or while on the island? Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 03:28 PM UTC
Hello folks,
We are going to Maui in March. There are many sites offering discounts on Maui activities. The prices can also vary widely. I was wondering whether I should buy these discount activities beforehand or wait until I reach the island to buy this. I may not be getting any discount if I buy while on the island, is that correct? I would appreciate your advice on this. I have seen packages offered for example for 4 activities. But only one is exciting (say submarine) and the others you may not be interested in. Thanks, |

there are many providers and they all compete will discounts when you are there. Just don't book at the last minute. Also, where you head out of may make a difference. for example, to see Molokini in the morning it is better to go out of Kihei rather than Lahaina.

Roadquill is right about Kehei for Molokini am boat trip, but for all other activities, on Front Street in Lahaina and at the harbor area, Behind the Banyon Tree/Courthouse park have a ton of different deals for everything under the sun and moon as well. Browse around before choosing. The visitors center is in the Old Lahaina Courthouse on Wharf Street.

Wait until you get there. You will find yourself getting into the "island mode" and you may not want to do what you already paid for. We go to Maui about every 18 months and always start out with great plans to do/see something different. In the last 10 years I don't think we have ever done that.
After a couple of drinks and a few hours on the beach we don't really want to leave; except maybe to walk to dinner. Once you get there you will find plenty of street corner or hotel vendors ready to sell you trips, if you so decide. I would guess same price or lower than you can find now.

If there is something you ABSOLUTELY want to do, book it ahead of time. For the rest, I'd wait until I got there. Good discounts can be had just walking up and down the streets of Lahaina and Kihei.
I have used Boss Frog to book a Molokini snorkel tour and two luau. They are very professional and usually have the best prices you will find. If you visit one of their stores on island, they will ask if you would like $100 cash for attending a timeshare presentation, but they DO NOT pressure you at all. They ask once, you say no, and that's it.

One thing that we did find a savings on with advance 0n-line booking was the day trip to Lanai with Trilogy tours. Once we booked on line, and once while on the island. On line was cheaper.

Aloha,
Here is a link that may give you some insight to pre-booking activites. I have used them to purchase snorkel trips which ended up with a 25% savings as well as a free T-shirt. http://www.101thingstodo.com/ Also when you land in the airport you will see many many types of brochures and booklets with discounts and added savings coupons. They are free and they also have driving maps as well. Aloha, kat
