| Olinda | The Hill up to Olinda Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 01:45 AM UTC
Hi....just wondering if anyone knows how steep the hill is that takes a person into Olinda. Is it too steep to walk up? Is there a bus, shuttle bus, that would take people up the hill from Recife?
Thank you, Joyce |

Joyce--
Taxis are plentiful and cheap in Brazil. When you get into Olinda (which is about 1/2 hour from Recife), there is a little area near the tourist office at the base of the historic district where I'm sure there will be taxis to hire if you wish. If you are not in good shape, it might be easier to take a taxi to the top and walk down. If you walk up, there are a couple of stretches that are steep, but you can take them slowly and enjoy the scenery/shops along the way. There is a small square in front of a church as you first go up where a number of guides wait for potential clients (if the ship tour is not providing one and you wish one).

Thank you Bahiana.....I am in good enough shape to go up the hill, we have an 86-yr old on the tour, and lots of folks in their 70's.....so we were concerned about them. This is a private tour with someone from Olinda...who just told us now about the journey into Olinda. Perhaps it was an oversight on her part. Someone else mentioned that the hill was very narrow...and so it's understandable that a bus couldn't go up.
Knowing that there are taxis to take those with difficulties up the hill is reassuring. I'm really looking forward to our visit.....thank you for your input once again!!
