| Cairo | Quick Trip to Cairo Tips Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 01:26 AM UTC
I'll be in Cairo for work for a week and will have evenings and one full day off. How late is Khan el-Khalili "open"? Is it possible to see the pyramids at Giza, see the Egypt museum, and see the Muslim/mosque section in one day? Is old Cairo near to many mosques? What time does the sunset at the end of February/early March?

It's just about possible to do the Pyramids, the Egyptian museum & the heart of fatimid (medaeval/'islamic') cairo in one day. The museum of course has a vast collection & merits much revisting but an hour and a half there will do for starters. The araea around Khan el Khalil is awash with mosques and other fabulous bits of architecture: the whole of the al-ghurfi complex, the al-azhar mosque and the whole walk either towards Bab al Ftouh or the other way towards bab al zawayla. An afernoon will be well spent: you could easily spend a week. sunset is around five, five thirty.

yes it is possible...
khan el khalil almost NEVER closes...specially a cafe like el Fishwai,it is open 24/7 even on national holidays. The pyramids sites closes at 4PM...but u can still go round it and see it while riding a carrige. hope this helps. marimar_72

I would say it is possible, if you start out very early. I don't think Khan el Khalili sleeps...
The pyramids close to the public close around 4pm and re-opens at night for the Sound and Light show. The sunsets around 7.30pm...
