Re: travel from cadiz to tarifa and back Posted: Thu February 14, 2008 12:03 PM UTC
Hello Karen. I looked up the train times on Spanish Railways: www.renfe.es and it looks like you won't make it back to Madrid by train. If you go to Cadiz, the last train to Cadiz (without changing) is at 16.15. I looked at Algeciras (which is an alternative and popular route) and the last train to Madrid is at 15.15.
So what are alternatives?
Well you can take a local train from Cadiz or Jerez that will take you to Seville. Then at Seville you could take the fast AVE service (2 1/2 hours from Seville to Madrid Atocha station) . This would mean finding a suitable bus to get from Tarifa to either Cadiz or Jerez.
Possibly the better route is for you to get from Tarifa to Malaga and then take a train (or bus) to Madrid. There are buses to and from Algeciras on a fairly regular basis. You could check by looking at www.tgcomes.es
At Algeciras you can take a bus to Malaga. Also look at http://www.ctsa-portillo.com/ (PORTILLO BUS COMPANY)
But I think you may find this route too difficult - timewise.
As I said. there is a regular bus from Tarifa to Algeciras. Maybe the best option although not the most comfortable, would be to take the overnight bus from Algeciras to Madrid? This leaves at 21.45 from Algeciras allowing you plenty of time to find the bus. It arrives at Madrid in the early morning at 06.20 ! if this sort of travel is appealing then look at the bus operator: www.daibus.es and also look at the best ticketing web site in Spain www.movelia.es (this latter one does not do all bus operators but you can order tickets online if you like)
One other thing. If you decide to look at the Algeciras option then I think you should also look at the LINESUR option to get from Seville to Tarifa via Algeciras. There are buses that run down to Jerez then on to Algeciras run by www.linesur.com and they are possibly the quickest ones. I have used them and they are fine. When you arrive at Algeciras bus station (called San Bernardo) you will then have to look out for the Tarifa bus (COMES bus) which will take you around the headland. have a look at a map of the area on www.viamichelin.com
Ask any questions and will try to help.
