Lake District National Park Self catering cottage for a week
Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 10:43 AM UTC
Hi there!

We are looking for a cottage for a week in this area or surrounds, preferably not far (within easy walking distance) to a little village. Does anyone have any recommendations? The self-catering cottages I have found online are at farms, which we usually love - peace and quiet, but this time we are looking for one a little closer to a village.

Thanks,
Jen

Hello Jenny - I was just going to ask - When and How Many People?

Late July gets busy. I wonder if this sort of place is the kind you are looking for
http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/England/holiday-cottage-Cumbria-Lake-District/p1955.htm

The southern part of the Lake District in an area such as this one, and Kirby Lonsdale and surrounding villages are mainly unspoilt.

For Lake District "proper" Troutbeck, Ambleside, Cockermouth,Grasmere and Rydal all worth a look.
By the way - I haven't stayed in the Cottage linked above but am on the Mailing list of Holiday Rentals and one came in this morning!
(I actually stay with relatives up there these days so no up to date recommendation for a property.)

Hi Jen,
I stayed in Elm Cottage in a small village called Thorthwaite which has an Art Gallery next door ( if that's of any interest ). The views from the garden were wonderful & the cost very reasonable. The link to that cottage is
