| Rijeka | Trip Around Eastern Europe Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 10:34 AM UTC
Hello,
I am a student currently studying in the Czech Republic. After school is over in mid May I would like to travel along the coast, south of the Czech Republic. I am planning to go from Prague, to Vienna, to Ljubljana, to Rijeka and perhaps Split and then to perhaps Macedonia or Albania. I have been attempting to find train routs through these places and have been relatively successful, however there are no rates posted. What would the best means of transportation be between all these places and can anyone recommend any websites? I have spent so much time researching and have found so little. Also, is this trip even feasible on a student's budget? Thank you so much for all your help, and any advice at all is appreciated! ps I posted this in the Rijeka, Croatia forum because going to coastal cities in Croatia was my initial inspiration for traveling. Any ideas of other places to go or not to go would be helpful as well. Thanks again! D |

You can also check Croatian railways on www.hznet.hr, although it's in Croatia solely but if you speak Czech you can probably find a way around this problem. Also, try www.db.de/site/bahn/en/start.html (German railway) and you can get info concerning most of European routes. I'd recommend going by bus around the routes in Croatia as it's the cheapest way (yeah, and more tedious); taking a ferry (Rijeka-Split) is more expensive (www.jadrolinija.hr for timetables and prices). But it really depends on what you'd like to see and do (culture, nature, nightlife, festivals or something else?) along Croatian coast and how long you intend to be in Croatia for. As for accommodation, try www.hostelworld.com; although, you'll be able to find accom once you arrive here as well, May is still not that busy. If you have any further questions, I'll be happy to help out.
